Dr. Press Cures Ruptured Cervical Disc:

Some years ago, Mr. Robert Magnone (who has given written consent to use his name), presented in our offices after a car accident. He was is great pain, and couldn't move his head, due to the spasm.

Dr. Press immediately ordered an MRI, which showed a RUPTURED cervical disc.

The patient had already seen a local, well respected neurosurgeon who wanted to operate on him immediately.

After a frank discussion of the potential risks and benefits, as well as possible alternative treatments, including the proposed surgery, Mr. Magnone chose to have Dr. Press commence treatment with Chiropractic adjustments, and ancillary physiotherapy

In just a few visits, Mr. Magnone was beginning to feel significantly better, but naturally with such a severe injury, he was required to continue to receive follow-up treatments under Dr. Press' care.

After a couple of months of therapy, the insurance carrier demanded that he be re-examined by the neurosurgeon.

(At that time they could have a Chiropractic Patient examined by an M.D. today, NJ State Auto Accident law makes it clear that an M.D. is NOT qualified to determine the need for Chiropractic Care)

The surgeon saw him after treatment, and when he was completely out of pain, and already back to work. Still, not believing the results in front of his own eyes, he wrote a report recommending that Mr. Magnone cease the Chiropractic treatments and re-consider what should have been an obviously unnecessary surgery.

When Dr. Press received that report, he called the carrier and told them that Mr. Magnone was already back at work! So an agreement was entered into to obtain a new MRI, and we would refer him back to surgery if the disc was not better.

Dr. Carruthers, of Montvale Medical Imaging soon called Dr. Press, and asked, "Has Mr. Magnone undergone surgery? " Dr. Press assured him he had not. And the Radiologist simply said, "I can't believe it, but there is no trace of a disc injury now." Dr. Press simply laughed, and said, "I guess the truth comes in black and white? ." Dr. Carruthers offered to co-author a paper about the case.
