Can Chiropractic cause stroke?
Q: What's about all this stuff I hear about strokes?
A: This is mostly what is known as "junk science", i.e. pseudo-science intended to scare people away from an effective, safe treatment. At the June 1997,World Chiropractic Congress in Tokyo, held under sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO) this was a serious subject. It was determined from the literature, that the incidence of stroke among those receiving manipulation, is actually LOWER than for the rest of the population. Naturally, that means that with or without manipulation, SOME people will suffer strokes.
FLASH - January, 2008 - In the highly respected medical journal "SPINE" a Canadian study verifying what we have been saying all along. NO increase of danger of stroke from Chiropractic care. See the article in the Toronto News...
Those intent on hurting Chiropractic want you to believe that any stroke after a manipulation was caused by the manipulation. But science just doesn't support that idea. More People die every year from Aspirin than suffer strokes in Chiropractic offices.
About 3000 people die every year from taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatories, like Motrin, Aspirin, and Aleve.... there is a 20x greater chance of getting hit by lightining on a clear days then having a stroke following a Chiropractic adjustment. In fact recent studies prove that the incidence is the same as those who have strokes after leaving the office of a general practitioner, or internist MD! Thus clearly it is not the treatment, but that certain people feel something is wrong and go to a doctor; then suffer a spontaneous stroke. Unrelated to the treatment at all!
