What is the French Paradox?
It is being studied for an ability to inactivate one of the genes known to be involved in the aging process itself! called the Sirtuin genes, resveratrol appears to inactivate one of these key genes which is the same one inactivated when organisms go on a calorie restricted diet. This miserable lifestyle, of constant near-starvation, however has been proven to prolong life, in some animals by nearly 50%. Turning off the Sirtuin genes appears to be exactly the same effect as in calorie restriction, but WITHOUT the misery!
Resveratrol also appears to reduce the incidence of colon and breast cancers, and may be involved in staving off the effects of Alzheimers disease.
Thus, Dr. Press now recommends that all patients over 35 should be taking at least 40 mgs of Resveratrol twice a day (BID), and diabetics should be thinking about starting a regimen of more like 500-700 mgs/day.
Resveratrol and Diabetes
Recent investigations have shown an amazing ability of high dose Resveratrol to actually reverse diabetes in SOME patients. If you are borderline diabetic, and need to lose weight; then that is certainly your best choice for losing your diabetes and dependence on anti-diabetic drugs. But if losing the weight has not quite helped you, then this COULD be worth a try.
