Never buy vitamins at discount stores, supermarkets, or drug stores. These brands are nearly all made by major drug companies, and even if you don’t buy the idea that they have conflict in keeping you well, when they make all their money selling you drugs when you are ill, then understand that in just one example; the vitamin pill that is labeled “Vitamin C”, may be sold as such if it has ascorbic acid in it.

Granted, ascorbic acid is ascorbic acid, regardless of where it comes from. And, even if it were synthesized from petroleum it would still be the same stuff. BUT: in nature you NEVER find pure Ascorbic acid. You ALWAYS get Vit C. together with numerous co-factors, the major ones being, Rutin, Hesperidin, and Bioflavinoids. You need at least these co-factors to fully absorb and utilize Vit C. So buying the cheap brand to save a few dollars is just paying to pass the vitamin in your urine, and keep the sewer system healthy.

Same kind of thing goes for various forms of Iron, Calcium, and so on.

You get what you pay for. We have done the research and now carry the finest brands of vitamins, minerals and natural supplements that money can buy. Many of these brands are sold ONLY to Chiropractic offices, and one has to send them a copy of a license to even buy them.

At Allied Chiropractic Center, we now carry a complete line of nutritional supplements, many of which are not available at health food stores, and some products are available exclusively at this office. The new scope of practice regulations now allow us to dispense these products to you. And, we have a price guarantee. Ask us at 201-569-1444. Or contact us at: sjp@sport-dc.com

Co Q10 ?

Finally, ALL Statins lower your body levels of Coenzyme Q10. CoQ10 though not yet labled officially a vitamin essentially meets all the necessary requirements for being considered a vitamin, i.e. it is critical for life. All vitamins are necessary for life. That means that if you fail to get enough of them, you eventually die from the deficiency. CoQ10 is necessary for your cells (ALL CELLS, including your heart muscle) to produce ENERGY. The mitochondria require CoQ10 to make ATP. ATP is the real energy force in all living things. Patients have been developing congestive heart disease, due to a deficiency of CoQ10, caused in our opinion by the administration of a cholesterol lowering drug to prevent a disease it cannot and has never been shown to prevent. However we do know that people die from congestive heart disease! In short, if you are taking ANY Statin drug, you MUST be supplementing with CoQ10 at least double the recommended daily amount that the makers of CoQ10 print on their lables.

In a 2009 edition of the “Annals of Internal Medicine“, D.
Well, of course it is! Red Rice Yeast, at least the few brands which did not cave in to the demands of the FDA (see us to find out which ones), actually contain Rosuvastatin! Thus they ARE naturally occurring statin compounds, and are sure to lower Cholesterol, assuming you are not taking one of the brands which acquiesced and removed the statin from their formulae.

This also means that if you’re going to take them, you should be under the supervision of a physician trained in clinical nutirtion, like a Chiropractor, and regularly monitored. And, as with any statin, you MUST be taking an appropriate amount of Co enzyme Q10, preferably the newer Ubiquinol form. See Dr. Press for details and to obtain the products at our offices.

In recent articles in the literature, it appears that we know far less than most physicians let on about this growing problem. For one thing, it would appear that in nations in which the diet is Calcium POOR, the incidence of osteoporosis is actually, and counter-intuitively LESS than here, Canada and Australia, where dietary Calcium is vastly higher than in most parts of the World.

It also seems that taking in more than about 1200 mgs/day of Calcium is perhaps even counterproductive. There are also discussion of certain forms of Calcium entering the vascular system, and hence the linings of your arteries, instead of re-strengthening your bones!

Finally, to make the situation even worse, all the drugs on the market, to “treat“ osteoporosis, are not bone growing medications, but bone HARDENING meds, and therefore make your bones more brittle, not really stronger.

So, what is someone to do once diagnosed with osteopenia (a sort of “pre“- osteoporosis)??

Remember, only a few years ago just SOME medical schools began offering nutrition as an ELECTIVE. So, Most medical doctors are really not educated in nutritional medicine.

Proper therapy begins with finding a Doctor you trust, who is actually trained in clinical nutrition. You should ask your doctor, and at Academy Chiropractic Center, we specialize in nutritional therapy, to do the blood tests to determine your blood PH, Calcium and Phosphorus levels, Vit D, and some other tests that will help to figure out what form of Calcium is best for you.

We have found many patients taking the advice of their internists, or obstetrician/gynecologists who were telling them to take ground up oyster shells, or even TUMS. Both Calcium Carbonate (essentially powdered limestone). This is one of the worst forms of Calcium you can take! Aside from neutralizing your stomach acid (preventing proper digestion of proteins and interfering in absorption of Vit B12), it is not particularly bioavailable.

Citracal, which is Calcium Citrate, is a newer “fad” among the medical set, but even though this is vastly better than carbonates, it’s still not the best calcium you can take.

At Allied Chiropractic Center, we now carry a complete line of nutritional supplements, many of which are not available at health food stores, and some products are available exclusively at this office. The new scope of practice regulations now allow us to dispense these products to you.
In this JAMA article researchers found that antibiotics, steroid sprays and placebos are all about the same in treating these problems. The big issue is that indiscriminate prescribing of antibiotics has created a public health menace, namely the epidemic of flesh-eating bacteria and other antibiotic infections like MRSA, and newer, worse ones, according to the CDC in Atlanta. Steroids reduce inflammation, but they also have masculinizing effects, and lower your resistance to infection.

Perhaps you should seriously consider trying our homeopathic remedy for upper respiratory infections and sinus. It is safe, effective and has NO side effects at all!

Call Allied Chiropractic Center and get those brands that Dr. Press has already researched and found to contain only the best ingredients.

[“bid” means twice a day – i.e. one in the morning, and one at night.]
[“qd” means once a day]

Our regimen:
For any adult over the age of 30:

*1.-	Resveratrol – 100mg bid.
*2.-	“No Flush Niacin” (Niacin Hexanicotinate): 100mg bid.
*3.-	Vitamin D - 5000 I.U. qd
*4.-	Purified (hi EPA DHA) Fish Oil- 100mg, bid
*5.-	Cholestene Brand (Red Yeast Rice)- 2 caps, bid
*6.-	In place of aspirin, we now prescribe Nattokinase 1 tab at night
*7.- To provide the anti-inflammatory effect of Aspirin, we also recommend MSM (methylsonfonylmethane), around 1tsp, bid.

Notes:

1.-	Resveratrol is the active ingredient in the wine which caused the “French Paradox”, the highest saturated fat diet in western Europe and the lowest rates of coronary artery disease. This keeps your arteries flexible and, at a minimum helps prevent hardening of the arteries (arteriosclerosis). Recent research shows it actually modulates one of the genes that causes aging! And, it’s use has been tied to reduced levels of prostate, colon and breast cancer.

2.-	Niacin is proven to raise the good cholesterol, the HDL’s. THESE have cardioprotective benefits.

3.-	Vitamin D is being shown more and more to be helpful in preventing numerous conditions, like cardiovascular disease, and certain cancers, breast disease, and even autism.

4.-	Fish Oil contains all kinds of good stuff, but it helps keep your blood from clotting and reduces the inflammation (CrP) that is involved in the formation of arterial plaque.

5.-	When they discovered that the red yeast that grows on rice contained a Lipitor-like substance, the FDA tried to get the companies to remove it from their formulae. On information, knowledge and belief, we understand that only this brand fought to keep it in. In this case the BRAND does make a difference.

All the above are FOOD supplements, NOT drugs:

You can buy all of the above right here at Allied Chiropractic Center. We even have a price guarantee posted in the office.

Find out what’s right for YOU. Make an appointment today with Dr. Press. sjp@sport-dc.com or call 201-569-1444.

Dr. Press’ Recommendations For Joint Health
for more in-depth information, get Dr. Press’ book “Chiropractic Patient’s Q&A”

Unlike most vitamins, there seems to be no good research that would make the recommendation of one brand of joint health formula significantly better than another, there fore Dr. Press suggests that all patients over the age of 40 should, (unless there is some contraindication with some medication you are taking), take Glucosamine and Chondroitin. (WARNING: If you are allergic to shellfish, there are shellfish free versions available for an additional cost) Glucosamine and Chondroitin come in single, double and triple strength formulas. You can determine the level you need based on the degree of arthritic changes you have been diagnosed with, or ask the doctor. We recommend both substances together, though the vast bulk of research favors the effects of glucosamine alone, there are some studies showing that chondroitin

(Study published by Reuter’s)

does increase the benefit. If you have joint pains, you can buy MSM to take along with your glucosamine and chondroitin, but DO NOT buy the three products combined in one pill! There are two reasons: 1st, you can’t get enough MSM in the combination pill to do you any real good, and 2nd, it just increases the cost of the product excessively. Get MSM powder instead, and, for general joint pains take two teaspoons in the morning and two in the evening. If the taste is too bitter, you can mix it into Welch’s grape juice, Raspberry Snapple, applesauce or yogurt and even add some sweetener like Splenda. The toxicity of MSM has been tested in athletes taking more than 3000mg/kg of body weight (vastly more than recommended above, and there were no ill effects).
